Electrical Emergencies We Attend

If something is sparking, smoking, tripping or dead, call Conn Maher — we fault-find fast and fix it safely.

Fuse Board & RCD Tripping

A board that trips again and again, or an RCD that will not reset. We track down the faulty circuit or appliance and restore power safely.

🔌

Total or Partial Power Loss

No power at all, or sockets and lights dead in part of the house. We trace the fault to the board, circuit or connection.

🔥

Burning Smell or Sparking

Scorch marks, buzzing sockets or a burning smell near a fitting are signs of a serious fault. Isolate if safe and call us immediately.

💧

Water Near Electrics

Leaks near lights, sockets or the fuse board can be dangerous. We make the installation safe, then repair and test.

Damaged or Exposed Wiring

Storm damage, DIY mishaps, rodents or wear and tear — we isolate, repair and certify the affected circuit.

🏠

Faults in Farms & Businesses

Outages on farms, shops and workshops cost money. We attend commercial and farm faults across the region.

What To Do Before We Arrive

Stay calm, keep people away from the fault and follow these steps. They may stop a small problem becoming a dangerous one.

  • If you smell burning or see smoke, isolate the power at the main switch if it is safe to do so, then call us immediately.
  • Do not touch damaged sockets, switches or wiring, and never pull a plug out by the cable.
  • If water is leaking near electrics, stay clear, switch off the affected circuit at the board if safe, and call us.
  • If your power is out but your neighbours still have power, the fault is likely on your own installation — call us.
  • If the whole area is out, report it to ESB Networks on 1800 372 999 first; call us if you need help once power returns.
  • Do not keep resetting a fuse board or RCD that trips straight back off — that is a sign of a real fault.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our emergency electrician service.

Do you provide emergency electrician call-outs?

Yes. Maher Electrical provides fast fault finding and emergency call-out service seven days a week across Co. Laois, Co. Offaly, Co. Kildare and surrounding counties. Call or WhatsApp 085 200 8988 for the fastest response.

My fuse board keeps tripping — can you fix it?

Yes. A fuse board that keeps tripping is one of the most common call-outs we attend. Frequent causes include a faulty appliance, water getting into a fitting or cable, a damaged circuit, or a board that is overloaded or outdated. We fault-find safely, repair the problem and advise if a fuse board upgrade is needed.

Is a power cut an emergency — should I call an electrician?

If your neighbours still have power and only your property is affected, the fault is most likely on your own installation and you should call us. If the whole area is out, report it to ESB Networks on 1800 372 999 first — and if you need help once power is restored, we are only a call away.

I can smell burning near a socket — what should I do?

Stop using the socket immediately and switch it off at the wall if it is safe to do so. If there is any smoke or heat, isolate the power at the main switch and call us right away. Burning smells, scorch marks and buzzing sockets should never be ignored — they can be an early sign of a serious fault.

How quickly can you attend an emergency call-out?

Response times depend on your location, the time of day and current workload. We are based in Mountmellick, so our quickest response is around Mountmellick, Portlaoise and North Laois, with regular call-outs across Offaly, Kildare and the surrounding counties. Call or WhatsApp us and we will give you an honest arrival time before you commit.

Is your emergency work certified and guaranteed?

Yes. Maher Electrical is registered with ECSSA (Electrical Contractors Safety & Standards Association) and fully insured. Every repair is carried out to current Irish standards and certified, and we will explain what caused the fault and how to avoid a repeat.
