Your Local Solar PV Installer

Maher Electrical is an SEAI registered solar PV installer based in Mountmellick, Co. Laois, run by Conn Maher. From our central midlands base we design and install solar panel systems for homes, farms and businesses right across Laois, Offaly, Kildare, Carlow and Kilkenny.

Every system is surveyed free of charge, sized around your actual electricity use, and installed and commissioned to current Irish standards. We are ECSSA registered and fully insured, we look after the SEAI grant paperwork, and we confirm the current grant position for your property at survey and quote stage before any work begins.

Read our guide to the SEAI solar grant to understand what is involved, or see how we pair panels with EV charger installation so you can run your car on your own power.

Why Homeowners & Farms Go Solar

Generate your own electricity, reduce what you buy from the grid, and make your property work harder for you.

Cut Your Bills

Solar panels produce electricity every day the sun shines, so you import less power and pay less for the energy you use. Modern panels are efficient even on bright, cloudy Irish days.

SEAI Grant Support

As an SEAI registered installer we complete the grant application with you. Grant rates and rules change over time, so we confirm the current position for your property at survey and quote stage.

Battery Storage

Store surplus daytime generation in a home battery and use it in the evening instead of buying it back. Batteries also keep essential circuits running during a power cut when correctly configured.

🚗

Solar + EV Charging

Pair your panels with a Zappi charger and your car charges on surplus solar power rather than grid electricity. It is the cheapest motoring you will ever do — and it comes from your own roof.

BER & Property Value

Solar PV and battery storage improve your Building Energy Rating, which matters for mortgages, re-sales and rentals. A certified solar installation is a permanent upgrade to the property.

🏭

Farms & Businesses

Dairy, poultry, workshops, shops and agri units all use power around the clock. Solar reduces running costs, and surplus generation can be exported back to the grid.

What We Install

One certified contractor for the full system — panels, inverter, battery, monitoring and all associated electrical work.

Solar Panels

High-efficiency panels fitted to pitched roofs, flat roofs, garages and ground-mounted frames, using quality mounting systems designed for Irish wind and rain.

Inverters

String and hybrid inverters from trusted manufacturers, correctly sized to your array and future-proofed for battery storage or a larger system later.

🔋

Battery Storage

Modular home and farm batteries that capture daytime generation for evening use, with safe ventilation, isolation and certification to current standards.

📊

Smart Monitoring

App-based monitoring so you can see generation, consumption, battery state and export in real time from your phone, and spot when something needs attention.

🔌

Zappi EV Charger Integration

We fit and configure Zappi electric vehicle chargers so they divert surplus solar straight to your car, working alongside your battery and grid supply.

Fuse Board & Safety Upgrades

Many older boards need attention before solar is added. We upgrade consumer units, add surge protection and certify the installation as part of the job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about solar PV and the SEAI grant.

Are you SEAI registered for solar PV?

Yes. Maher Electrical is an SEAI registered installer based in Mountmellick, Co. Laois. We are also ECSSA registered electrical contractors and fully insured, and every solar PV system we install is designed, commissioned and certified to current Irish standards.

Can I get the SEAI solar grant?

In most cases, yes — the SEAI solar PV grant is available to homeowners who use an SEAI registered installer, with separate support for battery storage. Grant rates and eligibility rules change over time, so we confirm the current position for your property at survey and quote stage and handle the paperwork with you. Our solar grant guide explains what is typically involved.

How many solar panels does my house need?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer — it depends on your annual electricity use, the size, shape and orientation of your roof, and whether you plan to add a battery or charge an EV. During your free survey we review your usage and roof, then design a system that makes sense for your home rather than simply filling the roof.

Do you need a battery with my solar panels?

No — solar PV works perfectly well without a battery, and any surplus is exported to the grid. A battery lets you store daytime generation for the evening, which suits households that are out during the day or want more independence from the grid. We will explain the trade-offs during your survey so you can decide what is right for your home or farm.

Can I charge my EV with solar power?

Yes. With a Zappi charger fitted alongside your solar PV, your car can charge on surplus solar generation instead of imported electricity — the Portlaoise project in our portfolio does exactly that. We install Zappi chargers and integrate them with your solar and battery system so you get the most from your own power.

How long does a solar installation take?

Most residential solar PV installations are completed in one to two days, depending on the size of the system, the roof and whether battery storage is included. We confirm the schedule at quote stage, keep you informed on the day, and commission the system and set up monitoring before we leave. Grant paperwork is submitted promptly afterwards.
